Betting outside casinos is not allowed in Galicia. But following Madrid steeps, where there are 168 betting houses run by three different companies, Galician government is studying the possibility to legalize sport-betting locals.

The main reason behind this decision is not other than money. Last year, Galicia collected 48 million Euros from their two casinos in A Coruña and A Toxa, despite not being a particularly good year for traditional gambling enterprises. This amount could be easily overcome by other type of betting such as online gaming and traditional bookies.

The internet sport-betting betting boom seems to have opened the eyes of regional governments as a perfect source of tax income to boost their economies. Despite not being legal, gambling outside of casinos is mentioned on Galician regulations; hence the regional government is keen on keeping the door open for future legalization.
